Portfolio Day at the AAU College of Education
Prof. Ghaleb El Refae, AAU President, attended the “Injaz” Portfolio event organized by the AAU College of Education. Dr. Nader Al Sanhouri, Dean of the College of Education, as well as other deans and faculty members, were present at the event.
Prof. El Refae expressed his delight at the portfolios which reveal the students’ effort and convey novel ideas enriching academic achievement and learning outcomes.
“The ‘Injaz’ Project has provided students with the opportunity to put the course planning and teaching methods they have learned into practice. It has also given them the chance to creatively personalize the knowledge they have acquired over the course of their study,” he added.
Dr. Nader Al Sanhouri, Dean of the College of Education, said that the Practicum is a key component of teacher education. It comes towards the end of the program whereby students teach actual classes at public and private schools. Throughout the Practicum period, students implement methods and theories while being monitored closely by qualified supervisors from the College of Education with help from cooperative teachers at the designated schools.
Dr. Al Sanhori reiterated that the particulars of the field training are documented in the “Injaz” Portfolio (Injaz is the Arabic word for achievement). This portfolio is a collection of the activities, worksheets, and practices conducted by the teacher-trainee. It mirrors the skills and experience the student has acquired throughout the Practicum period.
At the end of the ceremony, Prof. El Refae gave out certificates of appreciation for the top-achieving students. He also viewed the portfolios which reflected a genuine effort on the students’ part.
